Hallowmas | The Dead Return | The Summerland | Malovent Spirits

Hallowmas is the night the dead are free to roam the earth again. As in all things in nature, there must be a balance; there are benevolent and malevolent spirits.

Benevolent spirits mean no harm; we often communicate with them to see what messages they bring us from the other side. However, malevolent spirits are not so friendly and can even pose as if their intentions are well-meaning.
Hallowmas is the Witch's New Year. It is a high holiday, a celebration of life, and honoring our loved ones who have crossed the bridge into the Summerland.

Before heading out to circle, we usually cook our loved one's favorite meal, pour their favorite drink, light a candle in their honor, and often place a picture of them on the table. We adorn our home altars with mementos and objects that remind us of them.

Hallowmas is not only a spiritual holiday but a day of pure magic; it is a time when the stars may align and the setbacks you have experienced throughout the year come together as planned. But for that to happen, you must be proactive in your magical approach. You must call upon your ancestors for help. Don't worry if you cannot feel or see them; they are there.

But let's be clear: You must protect yourself and shield yourself from the negative beings that roam the earth. Most witches will tell you that Hallowmas is the only night the dead roam the earth. That is not true. The veil begins to part three days before and closes completely three days after.

If you do not know how to protect or shield yourself, find a trusted practitioner to help you. I cannot stress this enough!
Not all good or evil spirits return to the otherworld before the veil closes, and they become earthbound.
Our job is to show them the way back to the other side.

Benevolent spirits will go peacefully; however, if a malevolent spirit has found a way to attach itself to your aura or energy field, it will fight to hold on and not let go!

This can make you sick; I have had clients whose families locked them away in institutions because they thought they were crazy. After all, they would complain about seeing and feeling the being attached to them.

There are a lot of people who have been locked away in mental hospitals because they can see the unseen. Still, the thing is that they do not understand what they are seeing or how to interpret it.

For the families, it is easier to believe that they are crazy than to think that the supernatural may exist.

Hallowmas, or All Hallows' Eve, has roots that long precede the contemporary Halloween holiday. So, it is undoubtedly accurate to say that many elements of how we now observe Halloween come from historical Christian and even pre-Christian sources.

This time of year is sacred to many witches and pagan practitioners, who have returned deeply to the ways passed down by their ancestors and have a certain gravitas around ancestral practice.

However, it does not sit well with many of the more profound traditions beneath when we think about how modern Halloween takes on commercialization and feels more than ever an American manifestation.
This is something that warrants a fair amount of review and discussion.

But by the 1920s and '30s, it had become a festive affair with parades. The modern history of commercialized Halloween, which saw costumes and decorations sold at mass retailers in the 1950s, began promoting it.
Hence, although it has native ties to olden customs, its progressive financial face began based on the foundation to some extent shortly after the 1900s and officially during the mid-20th years.

Hallowmas is not a time to be disrespectful or speak ill of the dead. You may not be able to see them, but they can most certainly see you, and while you may think nothing of talking smack about an aunt you may not have favored, I would be perturbed about the things that go bump in the night during Hallowmas.

You can take some steps to protect yourself during Hallowmas. Remove welcome mats from your doors; having them there permits any disembodied being to enter your residence freely.
Sprinkle salt on your window seals.

Before bed, light a blue candle—sky blue is the best. This will help attract peaceful beings and keep out those who may cause discourse. Place a mirror facing downward under the bed right under where your pillows would be placed. There are two places where you are the most vulnerable: your crown chakra and solar plexus.

Lastly, pour a circle of salt around your bed. If you have some sage, crumble it up and place it around your bed. Sage is a potent herb, and I often use the essential oil when mixing my pre-ritual bath.

A witch takes a ritual bath before entering a circle for spiritual or magical workings; we go before our god's pure.
The days of going skyclad are over, for in a ritual circle, we may have our children with us; most covens assign the color of robe worn by the degree obtained by the initiate.

For instance, a third-degree male witch in my coven would wear a gold robe, and a third-degree female witch would wear a silver robe. Second-degree males and females wear green robes, and those just starting their path wear black robes.
Children are only allowed to attend the spiritual portion of the ritual; they are not allowed to participate in magical rites.

Their robes are white to symbolize the purity of a young seeker. All robes symbolize mystery, magic, and spirituality.
I hope this Hallowmas finds you in the company of good spirits; may the evil spirits be held at bay. May your spiritual awareness evolve, and may this Hallowmas fill you with abundant love, money, health, wealth, and prosperity.

Blessed be, Phelan
